SYLLABUS — CORE SUBJECTS IN BOTH YEARS:
Philosophy Of Psychotherapy & Personal Holistic Development. The basic principle in Holistic Psychotherapy is that only the freed self can free others. This section of the course is based on the Educo system of Dr. Tony Quinn. Educo, meaning to draw out from within, maintains that inside each of us there is a basic person whose potential needs to be drawn out and expressed. This basic philosophy is the framework for integrating the various therapeutic approaches taught on the course. Personal Psychotherapy: Each student is required to attend 20 hours of individual and 20 hours of group psychotherapy over the two-year period. This is arranged at the student’s own expense. Personal therapy is an important part of psychotherapy training as it helps the trainee towards increased self understanding and self-expression allowing them to use more of their personal resources while working with clients. External Clinical Practice (Case Work): In first year, students are required to see clients for a minimum of 30 hours and, in the second year, 70 hours. This allows students to gain practical experience of working with different individuals and to practice using the approaches, insights and techniques gained during the course. A written report reflecting on the process in each case is required. Clients also report independently on their experience
